Today we speak with a rising positive young role model for the #StopBullying movement 13 year old Zakiyyah Whitfield, her producer DJ Yazir & legendary singer Ms Natasha Mayfield Glass. We were very impressed with Za’s story but but we’ll let Za Za tell it:
“I share my love for music through study, practice and performance. I strive to be educational, entertaining and inspirational. I pursue excellence and professionalism in all aspects of an organization. I seek to build a movement that will help the youth. I believe in community service through the sharing of talents and resources. I want to be known for my messages that will be delivered through my voice and lyrics. I will not let anyone kill my shine because I bring the light into the darkness.”

1. ZaZA – It Will Never Work (Produced By DJ Yazir)
Zakiyyah Whitfield is her name, 13 years old is her age. Zakiyyah Whitfield was born February 14, 2000. Zakiyyah is the daughter of Natasha Mayfield Glass and Rufus Whitfield. Zakiyyah is from Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania She attended Global Leadership Academy, was homeschooled for a year, went to Overbrook Elementary, Islamic school for a year and now she attends KIP West Philadelphia. She started singing at the age of 2; her mother Natasha inspired her to be a singer. Zakiyyah’s first song she sang at the age of 2 was Mary J. Blidge “Be Without You.”After that she was in her school play The Wiz playing the tin-man at KIP. Her favorite singers are Rihanna, Kelly Price, and Chris Brown. Zakiyyah Whitfield was bullied in her school constantly about her religion (being Muslim) and herself. Every since Zakiyyah mother seen the potential in her daughter, she wanted her to come out of her shell and share her voice. This was always Zakiyyah’s dream, to be a singer and to express herself through her music. “When I first heard my daughter sing the Mary J. Blidge song, I was blown away,” Zakiyyah mother said. Zakiyyah wants to a role model to her youth, that’s why she started her own movement to stop the bullying in schools. Her first hit song “it will never work,” relates to anti-bullying. Her voice is not the only thing that is powerful; her songs tell stories and let you feel her emotions pour though her lyrics. Zakiyyah Whitfield is the next big thing; she will shine through her music and shine for her youth and all communities. She will not stop until she is on top
Famed radio personality Star shares his thoughts on the George Zimmerman verdict and Charles Barkley agreeing with the “not guilty” verdict. He also speaks about Cornell West’s “Obama’s a Global George Zimmerman” comments and shares his own thoughts on Obama.
At the beginning of July, Donald Glover announced he would be reducing his role on the NBC comedy Community to focus on his rapping career as Childish Gambino. At the end of the same month, Glover tweeted what appeared to be a trailer for a short film called Clapping for the Wrong Reasons. So much for putting a kibosh on that acting career.
In addition to previewing some new tracks, the video shows how deep Gambino’s Rolodex is. Keep your eyes open for appearances by Flying Lotus, Danielle Fishel (Topanga from Boy Meets World), porn star Abella Anderson (va-va-voom), and Gambino’s fellow rappers Trinidad Jame$ and Chance the Rapper playing a heated game of Connect Four. Whether this is hinting at a follow up to Camp/Royalty is unknown as of now, but check out Clapping for the Wrong Reasons below.
Note: If you dont get gold tooth part…
My grandpa told me that a long time ago when a man bought his own freedom he would show off his freedom and his new found “wealth” by showing how many gold teeth he could buy Later on it became a status symbol of gambling men , bootleggers, musicians or for that matter any black person that didnt work for white people anymore
All this changed in the late 70s and early 80s when it became connected to drug dealers, robbers, ang gangsters
in the 90s to the present it is now worn as fashion and many people dont know its true history so they make fun of it, ususaully by white people which is funny because they were originally a middle finger to slave masters
A NEW ORLEANS TRADITION THAT SPREAD TO THE REST OF THE SOUTH AND THEN TO THE REST OF THE WORLD
Thursday, August 15th, marks when The Food Trust’s esteemed Night Market street festival series drops for the first time on South Street in Philadelphia. This 7-block event will draw some 25,000 international guests, packing the already popular downtown business and leisure strip.
The Sëla hip-hop collective will present a special listening/gathering to present select beat-makers to a wide audience: “The Co-Production”. The event will be held at 9pm at the CRED Philly OnSite gallery at 325 South Street
All producers are welcome to set-up with their own laptops/devices + headphones, in the rear lounge area, to allow guests to privately listen to their work. See an event coordinator onsite for arrangements.
— “Night Market Philadelphia is the city’s premier street food festival, a roving food event spotlighting Philly’s best ethnic and regional restaurants and food trucks. Inspired by Asia’s lively outdoor markets, our events celebrate up-and-coming neighborhoods and showcase Philadelphia’s diverse food and drinks and vibrant arts and culture scene.” —
A group of VERY angry black people convene just hours after the George Zimmerman verdict was handed down to express our anger in a healthy way… Sort of… This episode features the good folks of the Sela collective
